Plastic straws are a large piece of the plastic waste that clogs our oceans. But one 17-year-old has begun a crusade against them. She became the leader for the No Straw November movement, a resolution adopted unanimously by the California Coastal Commission. Recently, she formed her own nonprofit called Jr Ocean Guardians. They recruit other teens as Jr Ocean Guardian Ambassadors, who visit younger school children to teach them about plastics, and to clean up the beaches. She has already effected several eating establishments, who now only give straws on request.
